Play it in the Mind, the Body will Follow.
I managed to get to the gym two nights ago at sparring time. I had not sparred in quite sometime because of my deteriorating hips. When I walked in I planned on doing some stuff on the bag and lift some weights. My instructor asked me to do some light sparring and I decided to give it a shot.
Much to my surprise my foot work and body movement returned naturally. My jab snapped and my combinations were not to shabby. I had played my technique over and over again in my head. My visualization paid off. It played itself out in my actual physical activity. As another fighter told me, even when your hurt you can still train your mind. How true that is.
I was so proud when my teacher said I was moving like a young man. The pain was not even what I imagined it to be. The physical activity lessened my stress and loosened up my body.
The down side was the pain in my hip came on strong in my sleep. That was a small price to pay for the awesome time spent with other warriors. That is a connection that only fighters understand.
Now- will I be able to do that again? I believe so. Will I hit the ring again? Maybe, but it is OK if I do not. Just being part of the fight family makes it all worth it. For that I am blessed. http://www.sakuramartialarts.com/?Click=40430
